The Council’s Mechanical Depot and Supply Services Manager Mick Gray said that, since the 2007-2008 financial year, Lake Macquarie City Council has reduced fuel consumption by 12 per cent.
Furthermore, the Council has cut greenhouse gas emissions by almost 20 per cent, and achieved fuel savings of more than $12,000.
Measures taken to achieve these results include reducing engine size and increasing the number of diesel-powered vehicles on the road.
Of the award, Mr Gray said: "We are very pleased to receive national recognition for our efforts, and we are even more pleased to make environmental and financial savings for the community."
