Impressive emissions reductions by Lake Macquarie Council

Lake Macquarie Council has reduced its carbon emissions by 1,018 tonnes since starting its Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reduction Target Policy in 2008, and this year alone it exceeded targets by 102 tonnes.
Lake Macquarie Mayor Greg Piper said: “Council has made significant progress in reducing organisational carbon pollution.”

Some of the measures in place to reduce emissions by the Lake Macquarie Council include:
The installation of solar hot water systems, site metering and shower timers at caravan parks
Upgrading of boilers at the Charlestown Pool
Making the Council vehicle fleet smaller and more fuel efficient vehicles
The installation of 25 kW worth of solar PV modules at various council buildings
Acquiring 15 per cent of GreenPower for the Council's largest energy consuming buildings.
